Vicolo Aurora

A New Chapter for Dining in Downtown Aurora

Nestled in the heart of downtown Aurora, a new dining experience is taking shape—a place where the charm of European cafés meets the vibrant energy of a growing community. Vicolo, the brainchild of Chef Chris Curren and Megan Curren, is set to open in the spring of 2025. Inspired by the alleyways and piazzas of Italy, this café and restaurant will offer an all-day dining experience that transforms seamlessly as the day progresses, featuring a unique blend of Italian-inspired cuisine.

The new concept is the latest project from O&D Hospitality, a hospitality group founded by Chris and Megan Curren in 2024. Building on their years of experience in Chicago's dining scene, the Currens bring their expertise to the western suburbs. Their first venture, The Graceful Ordinary, opened in 2021 and has earned local and national recognition. Now, with Vicolo, O&D Hospitality continues its mission to bring thoughtful hospitality to new communities.

Dunne Kozlowski is proud to partner with Megan and Chris Curren to bring this exciting new dining concept to life. Set to open in the spring of 2025, Vicolo promises to transform the dining landscape in downtown Aurora, IL. Inspired by the charm of European cafés and Italian eateries, Vicolo will offer a distinctive all-day experience, seamlessly transitioning from a cozy café by day to a high-end restaurant by night.

Located at 7 S. Broadway, Vicolo will be housed in one of Aurora's historic buildings, a former art gallery dating back to the 1800s. The building's rich history aligns perfectly with the Old World ambiance that the Currens envision for their newest venture.

From Morning Café to Evening Dining

What to Expect from Vicolo’s Unique Concept

At its core, Vicolo is designed to be a community hub for downtown Aurora. During the day, guests will find a welcoming café serving unique and rustic Italian dishes, such as our signature handmade pasta and freshly baked pastries. The café will also offer Italian coffee, gelato, and other light fare, creating an inviting atmosphere for residents, professionals, and visitors.

In the evening, the space will evolve into a sophisticated dining destination. The dinner menu will feature locally sourced, chef-driven dishes alongside a craft cocktail menu designed to complement the flavors of Italy. A wood-fired pizza oven will be at the heart of the dining room, offering diners a front-row seat to the action as pizzas are prepared right before their eyes.

The attention to detail in both the menu curation and the interior design reflects the passion behind the project. From the stained glass and original wood floors to the tin ceiling and exposed brick, patron will experience an ambiance that will evoke the warmth and history of its European inspiration.

Dunne Kozlowski's Role in Designing Vicolo

One of the project's standout features is the transformation of Skinny Park, the small outdoor space adjacent to Vicolo. The park will be reimagined as a piazza for al fresco dining, adding to the authentic European vibe. The space will serve as a gathering place for the community, with outdoor seating, live music performances, and even Italian movie screenings, creating a unique and vibrant dining experience.

Vicolo's Impact on Aurora's Downtown Revival

The opening of Vicolo marks an exciting chapter in the continued revival of downtown Aurora. As one of the oldest buildings in the area, the site has served many purposes over the years—formerly a stable cigar shop and shoe store—before its most recent role as an art gallery. With the edition of Vicolo, it will once again play a central role in the city's vibrant dining scene.

The Currens chose Aurora for their second restaurant because of its historic charm and potential for growth. "It just felt right," said Megan Curren in a recent Daily Herald article. "Aurora feels a little like coming back home." With Vicolo, they aim to create a destination that not only serves excellent food but also fosters a sense of community and connection.

A Look Ahead: Vicolo's Grand Opening in Spring 2025

As Vicolo prepares to open its doors, excitement builds around this unique concept. Whether you're stopping by for a quick coffee and pastry in the morning, enjoying a leisurely lunch, or indulging in a chef-curated dinner paired with a craft cocktail, Vicolo promises to deliver an unforgettable dining experience.

Stay tuned for more updates on the grand opening, and join Dunne Kozlowski and O&D Hospitality as we look forward to unveiling Vicolo Aurora to the community in 2025.
